Wildwood (The Wildwood Chronicles #1)

Author(s): Colin Meloy

Middle Fiction

Prue McKeel's life is ordinary. That is, until her brother is abducted by a murder of crows and taken to the Impassable Wilderness, a dense, tangled forest on the edge of Portland. So begins an adventure that will take Prue and her friend Curtis deep into the Impassable Wilderness. And what begins as a rescue mission becomes something much greater as the two friends find themselves entwined in a struggle for the very freedom of this wilderness. A wilderness the locals call Wildwood. 'This book is like the wind, strange forest it describes. It is full of suspense and danger and frightening things with world has never seen, and once I stepped inside I never wanted to leave.'LemonySnicket'One part fairy tale, one part coming-of-age story, one part unrepentantly gorgeous work of art, this book is overflowing with gifts.' Jonathan Safran Foer'A richly satisfying weave of reality and fantasy.' New York Times Book Review

Product Information

Colin Meloy once wrote Ray Bradbury a letter, informing him that he 'considered himself an author too.' He was ten. Since then, Colin has gone on to be the singer and songwriter for the band the Decemberists, where he channels all of his weird ideas into weird songs. The Wildwood Chronicles (Wildwood, Under Wildwood and Wildwood Imperium) represent his first time channelling those ideas into novels.
